Always The Last To Know

Marie Fredriksson – Demo, 1998 4:41

The things you did – I never saw them
I only picked up what I found
The deeds you hid – how could I have missed them?
They’re floating free all over town
When all screamed high, I whispered low
Always the last to know

Suspicious calls – I wasn’t listening
I never felt that insecure
Mail arrived – I wasn’t reading
I wasn’t ready to be sure
I was just a part of your late show
Always the last to know

Sister, sister, brother, brother
Bring out the blessing human touch
You ran so fast, I was so slow
Always the last to know

Please forgive me for being foolish
That’s how I am, how about you?
I close my eyes and keep on cherish
Golden one was once so true
Our love left freezing in the snow
Always the last to know

Sister, sister, brother, brother
Bring out the blessing human touch
You ran so fast, I was real slow
Always the last, the last to know

Sister, sister, brother, brother
Bring out the joy I miss so much
You place me with grace in your darkest shadow
And I was always the last to know

Per: This is Marie’s demo and her music. Sometimes she asks for some lyrics to work with and I gave her “Always the Last to Know” since I'm very fond of them. This must be end of the ’90s or maybe early ’00s, can’t remember.

Per Gessle – Demo, 3 June 1998

Hallelujah – sister, brother
Bring out the blessing human touch
You ran so fast – I was real slow
Always the last to know – oh oh

Per: This is my very first demo (or a short part of it…) of “Always the Last to Know”. Made in 1998 at the T&A Studio. Then there was a second try with just a piano in 2004. Same lyrics, same music. Then I gave up the music, gave up most of the lyrics, re-wrote everything and made a great demo with Chris at the AGM Studio in 2010. You haven’t heard that one! Yet.

Marie Fredriksson – Det som var nu [Original Version] 6:37

På blanka blad
Fyller jag en känsla
Den stilla stunden
Känns ren och klar
När ögonblick
Blir en helhet
När allt bara är
Som varma ljus
När hjärtat klappar
Lugnt och tyst
Och jag kan anda ut

Jag tittar ut
Ser tiden rusa
Jag tänker på
Vad allt gick fort
Jag ser mej själv
I ålderns närhet
Det känns ändå bättre
Nu än då
När hjärtat klappar
Lugnt och tyst
Och jag kan anda ut

Allt det som var nu flyr bort
Ta vara på det lilla blir stort
Allt ruser iväg
Jag vänder mej om
Det som var nu är långt bort

Och kvällen kom
Dagen var till ända
Än en gång
Gick allt för fort
Jag lägger handen
På min kära
Jag somnar in i hans famn
Mitt hjärta klappar
Lungt och tyst
Och jag kan andas ut

Allt det som var nu

Human touch
You ran so fast
I was so slow
Always the last to know

Please forgive me

How about you?
I close my eyes
To keep and cherish
Guarding what was once so true
A love left freezing
In the snow
Always the last to know
