How Do You Do!

Anteckningar

Per: Groovy. Marie: Hmm… Per: The first single from Tourism, which we recorded during the Join the Joyride-World Tour 1991-92. Up to this point our record sales had been almost ridiculous. Eight million Look Sharp!, nine million Pretty Woman, ten million Joyride. It had come down sooner or later. The idea behind Tourism was to record some new tracks wherever we could book a studio, to benefit from the energy you get in a touring band. Marie: We were back in Europe for stadium concerts in the summer of 1992 and needed a single. One of our weakest, I think. Per: I like it. It’s about a thousand ideas squeezed into one song. Hard to play live, so we dropped it for a while. Had to get it back in the set, though. Fans started to make flags and posters saying “Why don’t you play ‘How Do You Do’?” I didn’t mind since Tiny Tim is mentioned in the lyrics…

– Don’t Bore Us – Get to the Chorus! liner notes, 1995

“How Do You Do!” was the first single off Roxette’s fourth album Tourism, a collection of live tracks and on the spot-recordings made during the Join the Joyride Tour in 1991-92. A huge hit in the summer of 1992, it was written by Per as an attempt to create the missing link between sugary pop classics like “Yummy, Yummy, Yummy” by Ohio Express and “Simon Says” by 1910 Fruitgum Company. “Well… at least I tried”, he says.

Roxette – Ursprungliga Versionen 3:12

I see you comb your hair
And gimme that grin
It’s making me spin now
Spinnin’ within
Before I melt like snow
I say hello
How do you do!

I love the way you undress now baby begin
Do you caress
Honey my heart’s in a mess
I love your blue-eyed voice
Like Tiny Tim shines thru
How do you do!

Well here we are crackin’ jokes in the corner of our mouths
And I feel like I’m laughing in a dream
If I was young I could wait outside your school
Cos your face is like the cover of a magazine

How do you do
Do you do
The things that you do
No one I know could ever keep up with you
How do you do!
Did it ever make sense to you
To say bye bye bye?

I see you in that chair with perfect skin
Well how have you been baby
Livin’ in sin?
Hey I gotta know
Did you say hello
How do you do?

Well, here we are spending time in the louder part of town
And I feel like everything’s surreal
When I get old I will wait outside your house
Cos your hands have got the power meant to heal

How do you do
Do you do
The things that you do
No one I know could ever keep up with you
How do you do!
Did it ever make sense to you
To say bye, bye, bye?
